How to password-protect a PDF
Lock a PDF with a password before you email sensitive pages.
Protect PDF adds a password so the file opens only for people who know it. Use it for IDs, contracts, and anything you would not leave in an open folder.
Before you lock the file
Pick a password you can share safely with the recipient. Store it outside the email that carries the PDF when you can.
How to use it
- Open Protect PDF and upload your file.
- Enter a password and confirm it.
- Click Protect PDF and wait for the job to finish.
- Rename if you want, then download the locked PDF.
Tip: Use at least four characters. Share the password through a different channel than the file when the content is sensitive.
